HAWTHORNE — In its 1A North openers, the Wells softball team put up runs in bunches.

On March 29, the Lady Leopards plated 43 runs in a doubleheader versus Mineral County — winning both games by run-rule margins of 17-0 in four innings and 26-13 through five frames.

Game One

Freshman Jess Wright led the offensive attack and went a perfect 4-for-4 with a triple, scored four runs and drove in three.

Junior Adriana Aguilar hit 3-for-4 with three RBI and three runs, and sophomore Khloe DelRio batted 3-for-4, scored a run and drove in one.

Junior Andreina Mercado was a clean 2-for-2 with a double, four RBI and two runs.

Freshman Stacia Hansen finished 2-for-3 and crossed once, and freshman Mayte Casas closed at 1-for-2 with a run scored.

Without hits, freshman Jitzel Rivas scored three runs and drove in one, junior Grace Otto tallied three RBI and sophomore Aryanna Rodriguez came around twice.

In the circle, DelRio earned the complete-game win with a shutout and struck out 10 batters and walked five across four frames.

Game Two

Wells used the finale for batting practice, hitting an absurd 26-for-45 as a team — roughly 1/3 of the knocks going for extra bases.

Mercado crushed a clean 6-for-6 with four RBI and three runs.

Otto went 4-for-5, belted a homer, drove in four runs and scored three.

Aguilar hit 3-for-4 with a dinger and a double, crossed five times and drove in four.

Rivas batted 3-for-5 with a home run and two doubles, four runs and three RBI — Rodriguez going 3-for-5 with four RBI and three runs.

Wright went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI and two runs — freshman Avery Safford finishing 2-for-4 and driving in one.

DelRio closed at 2-for-6 with a double, crossed three times and drove in two.

Casas capped the hits at 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.

Without a knock, freshman Arabella Martinez crossed twice.

In the start, Otto allowed five runs — just one earned — on four hits with two punchouts across three innings.

From the pen, Rodriguez gave up eight runs — four earned — on seven hits with four strikeouts and four free passes through four frames.

Versus Sierra Sage Academy/Rite of Passage

On April 7, the Lady Leopards gained two wins with forfeits by SSA/ROP.
