Congratulations to our lady Wolverine wrestling team for their performance at the all Girls NIAA Northern Divisional Tournament. Girls wrestling is one of the only sports that is an all state competition. These ladies wrestled against student-athletes from all over Northern Nevada in an attempt to qualify for the NIAA All Girls State Championships. Here are the results. Madison(Gracie) Rivera is your Northern Division 138lb champion! Gracie wrestled incredibly well and was able to pin her way through her bracket. Gracie was able to pin her opponent in the first period in her finals match! Destiny Gonzales is your Northern Division 165lb champion! Destiny pinned her way through her bracket. On the season Destiny has only lost two matches. She was able to avenge one of her losses in the finals match, by pinning her opponent! Your Northern Division HWT runner up is Aileen Lamderos! Aileen wrestled well this weekend and has prepared for this tournament all season long. Aileen is bringing home q second place finish. Last but not least, Faith Gonzales. Faith wrestled incredibly well. Faith is 4-1 this weekend losing to an incredibly tough opponent. Faith was able to work her way back through a stacked bracket and pin her opponent to place third! All four of these ladies are state qualifiers. Your lady wolverines as a team placed 6th out of 22 scoring an impressive 88 points! Congratulations ladies! Three of the lady Wolverine wrestlers continue to make history and set records at WWHS. Almost simultaneously Gracie Rivera, Faith Gonzales, and Destiny Gonzales all reached the incredible milestone of 50 career wins! Most of them coming by pin. All three of these ladies have been incredibly impressive for the last two seasons. This season Gracie Rivera has an official record of 31-2. Gracie has won 5 individual tournament titles this season, with 2 second place finishes. This season Faith Gonzales has an official record of 34-4. Faith has brought home four individual tournament titles, and 2 second place finishes. Destiny Gonzales has an official record this season of 31-2. Destiny has placed first at every single tournament the team has attended this season, except for one. Both of Destiny’s losses come from the Sierra Nevada Classic where Destiny took 4th place. Destiny has brought home 6 first place finishes this season. All three of the girls were a huge part of the team trophy the girls were able to bring home from the battle of the mine. Please congratulate these ladies on an incredible accomplishment! -Coach Olson

AOT
This weekend the men’s and women’s wrestling team traveled to Eureka, Utah to compete at the Battle of the Mine wrestling tournament. The men’s team performed very well with many wrestlers performing the best they have all season long. The men’s team brought home two medals! Freshman Ethan Hammar wrestled with confidence and was able to place 4th in his bracket. Ethan beat quality opponents from all over the state of Utah. Davian Morales brought home a 3rd place medal and only lost 2 matches all weekend long. Davian led the team in overall team points and pins. Andre Hernandez, Andres Trujillo, Aleixo Luna, Alex Trujillo, Caleb Romero, and Fernando Carbajal were all able to place 6th in the tournament. The women’s team made history! Never in school history has a wrestling team from WWHS brought home a team trophy from a tournament. Not only did the girls bring home a trophy from the tournament on Saturday, all of the lady wolverines went undefeated on Friday night. The wolverine’s men’s and women’s team have a habit of bringing home individual medals, but for the first time ever, the lady wolverines brought home the tournament win! The lady wolverines wrestling team includes Tanya Palafox, Aaliya Domínguez, Veronica Torres, Miranda Soriano, Sydney Howry, Emma Prieto, Gracie Rivera, Faith Gonzales, and Destiny Gonzales. Leading the way for the lady Wolverines are Gracie Rivera, Faith Gonzales, and Destiny Gonzales. All three of these ladies were undefeated on Friday and Saturday. They scored 26 points for the team each! Adding to the team scores were Aaliya Dominguez. Aaliya was able to pin her final two opponents and score 6 points for the team. Sydney Howry had some gritty matches that helped the team gain an additional 4 points. Veronica Torres wrestled extremely tough and brought home a 4th place medal and scored an additional 11 points for the team. All ladies who traveled competed extremely well and they brought home the tournament trophy! Congratulations Lady Wolverines! --Coach Olson

Dear Parents, We hope this message reaches you in good health. Due to the current snow conditions and in consideration of everyone's safety, we have decided to implement a 2-hour delay for the school's opening tomorrow, January 11, 2024. School will begin at 10:30 am at WWHS and WWMS and at 10:00 AM at WWES. This delay is intended to allow for improved road conditions and ensure a safer commute for both students and staff. Buses will also operate on a delayed schedule. Please take the necessary precautions for a safe commute to school, and we appreciate your understanding as we prioritize the safety of our school community. Please stay tuned for further updates on the school's website or the Elko County website and app. Thank you for your cooperation. Sincerely, Mr. Kyllonen

The Nevada School Climate/Social Emotional Learning Survey (NV-SCSEL) is used to gather student feedback about their experiences at school. The NV-SCSEL surveys are administered to students in grade 5 and up throughout the state of Nevada during the fall of each school year. The NV-SCSEL surveys measure students’ perceptions of key aspects of school climate, including physical and emotional safety, relationships, and cultural and linguistic competence, as well as students’ social and emotional competencies. The survey is an opportunity for students to anonymously share their experiences of their school’s climate with their school, school district, and NDE. To learn more about the survey, visit nevadaschoolclimate.org. Elko County School District will be administering the survey to students (5th -12th grade) between November 20th and December 14th , 2023. Parents can preview the survey here: https://5il.co/28q0d Questions on the survey are optional. Students can choose not to answer any question they do not want to answer. Parents can opt their child(ren) out of participating in the survey by contacting their child(ren)’s school. If you have any questions about the NV-SCSEL survey, please contact your child(ren)’s school.
